It nearly takes all year to prepare Málaga for its festival in August, one of the most important events in Andalucia, which transforms the city for a few days. The people (malaguños) show all their enthusiasm, friendliness, effort and heart, the result being a magnificent one. The festival is divided into two sceneries, one during the day in the Calle Larios and its surroundings, the other in the evening in open air on the festival ground. More than 150 stalls are being put up and the area with all the attractions covers more than 500.000 m².
During the festival people can admire the typical andalucian robes, especially on women and girls. In general the traditional costume consists of a "flamenco dress" in vivid colours tight fitting with flounces as well as a mantilla and other necessary accessories. One of the most traditional events takes place during the day. Thousands of riders do their parade on horses or in carts and carriages which are decorated carefully with andalucian motives very colourful and with many flowers. |
